COURSE MAP: The course starts at The Interstate Hotel, Whitemark, and finishes at The Furneaux Tavern, Lady Barron. The course direction is reversed each year, so on odd years the course is run from Whitemark to Lady Barron and on even years from Lady Barron to Whitemark. The course winds through farm land and bush with no major obstacles, just the odd pot hole. The majority of the course is on sealed roads with the rest being on packed clay gravel roads. All intersections on the course are manned by aid stations so you would have to try very hard to get lost. Any personal drinks or food need to be given to the race director at The Interstate Hotel start line by 7:45am for walkers and 8:45am for runners on the race day. Please make sure personal food and drinks are clearly labelled so there can be no mix-ups at the stations.
In the spirit of getting as many people involved as possible, we encourage teams of whatever number or combination or mode that suits. In 2010 we had a relay of uni-cycling school children.
There is not a lot of traffic on the roads and the Flinders Island locals are all well aware of the race but please remain on the right hand side of the road and ensure you have clothing that is highly visible. In case of emergency call 000 and they will arrange the local SES, police or ambulance service. But the most important rules are to encourage all other runners and have fun.
Refueling after the race is easy; the local Lions Club provides refreshments, food and water (included in entry fee) and luckily we always finish at one of the pubs so there is always cold beer, drinks and a full lunch menu.
