Still trying to decide whether to come over for this year's event? Maybe free flights, accommodation, hire car, pasta night with Steven Bradbury and P2P or F5 entry will seal the deal for you and a friend!
For details on how to enter head over to the Sharp Airlines competitions page. But get your skates on, because entries close at midnight this Sunday 10th August!
Good luck; hope to see you soon :-)
It may have been a bit quiet here on the News front, but it's full steam ahead behind the scenes. The paperwork train has started, and all the important roles allocated to the usual suspects, and some unusual ones as well.
Leaving behind dodgy metaphors for a moment, the weather has been amazing for training here lately. Clear skies, no wind, 18 degrees... can't really ask for more in paradise. Unless we asked not to have to go to work on days like these :-)
But the main news items are that:
1. Steven Bradbury's flights to Flinders have been booked (yay!), and
2. the new timing system (the same as used by Parkruns worldwide) has been ordered and will be on the island ready for testing by us in July. We're hoping this will be the magic solution to our timing and recording dilemmas!
Only three and a half months to go now. We'll be posting suggestions for training over the coming weeks. But I'm going to keep taking advantage of this glorious Autumn "I'm pretending I'm Summer" weather.
One foot in front of the other; repeat.
- Mel :-)
To succeed unexpectedly and against the odds.
Derives from the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City when Steven Bradbury won gold in the 1000m speed skating event by skating at the back of the pack and racing past when all the other competitors crashed on the last corner.
We can confirm, with great excitement, that this year's Pasta Night Guest Speaker is none other than Aussie sporting legend Steven Bradbury! His talk will cover his years of determination and hard work leading up to the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, the broken neck and major leg injury (111 stitches) that sidelined him during training, and will include audience participation and the opportunity to hold his gold medal.
"His career as an Olympic athlete was driven by determination and most importantly a will to succeed. With the same passion he showed on the ice, Steven has continued his success as a Motivational speaker, MC/Facilitator and After Dinner Speaker at over 650 conferences and events in 12 countries.
"His warm friendly nature, down to earth manner and use of humour is sure to help ‘break the ice’. The Bradbury story is one of the true Aussie battler who overcomes much adversity to achieve the ultimate goal".
Bookings for the Pasta Night, as well as registration for all Running Festival events, will open during March.
And you never know - someone might do a Bradbury during the Pub2Pub or Flinders5.
